Ottawa River Access

Project Description

The Rocher Fendu section of the Ottawa River has been paddled for hundreds of years and since the 1970s, enjoyed by recreational kayakers, canoeists, and rafters. Protecting river access is a critical issue with legacy value that is shared by many recreational users.

The Project
1) The goal of the project is to secure a public access point for recreational paddlers and other local user groups in partnership with the Municipality of Whitewater Region Township.

2) Raise funds to develop a roadway in a manner that is respectful of local municipal requirements, nearby property owners, Whitewater Region businesses, commercial rafting companies, and provide emergency access to the local fire and paramedic services.

We endeavour to promote recreation, fitness, pursuit of amateur sport in the outdoors, and tourism to the Whitewater Region Township.

The proceeds from this fundraising will be
used for the following cause(s):

Remove trees, prepare land, lay gravel, install appropriate washrooms, signage, and benches.  Develop a maintenance plan and fund.

How this project will assist in promoting
or developing amateur sport on a national
level.

The Ottawa River's Rocher Fendu Section of whitewater rapids is considered one of North America's premier sport locations.

Numerous local amateur sport enthusiasts and Ontario athletes have become national and international calibre by paddling this river.

Private landowners have had to charge fees due to increased insurance and service costs to access the river at end of rapids.  This limits the accessibility unless a sport participant can afford it.

The municipality cannot afford build a road or access point at this time.  The provincial sport organization is stepping up to assist with recreational access.

Public Access to this river ensures future sport participants can play, promoting good physical and mental health without fees.
