How this project will assist in promoting
or developing amateur sport on a national
level.
This project will allow Peterborough Golf and Country Club (PGCC) the ability to maintain quality turf and allow greater accessibility to promote and develop amateur golfers.
PGCC has been an avid supporter of amateur golf events at all levels. We have hosted numerous National Men's, Ladies, Senior and Jr golf events. We encourage potential members to consider the merits of our course designed by a renowned Canadian designer which provides an exceptional experience for all levels of golfer.
We are at a significant disadvantage of being able to continue to host amateur events and to grow the talent and skills of players on a national level due to our declining infrastructure. This project will allow us the ability to better be able to control the quality of our playing conditions.
PGCC currently lacks significant infrastructure in these areas and the property tends to be excessively wet during the spring and fall seasons, as well as subsequent periods of extreme precipitation. The result is a golf course that is, from time to time, nearly impossible to navigate with any type of machinery, including golf carts and maintenance equipment. Full course closures have to occur in order to allow the water to subside. This has a negative impact on playability of the course, as wet conditions impact shot distance, inconsistent playing conditions and poor golf ball lies on fairways, rough and in bunkers.
